News and Views is an electronic bulletin founded in Moscow in 1993. For over 5 years, it distributed anarchist news from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus once or twice a year. At present. the editor (me, Laure Akai) has made her way back West to Poland and this change in geographical orientation is reflected in its new contents. NV will now be bringing out news mostly from the former bloc countries - with an occassional detour into the rest of the world.

This webpage will occassionally contain new material and links to news items appearing elsewhere but it is not meant to be a source of the most up-to-date news items. People interested in current anarchist news from Russia or Eastern Europe may join the alter-ee mailing list or look through a-infos.

I have added a section on anarchist groups in Eastern Europe with links. This is not meant to be a comprehensive list and any omissions should not be understood as a sign of approval or disapproval (although sometimes they are). Please note that most links to webpages will take you to non-English language pages; for links to English language pages, please click on links to English pages. Unfortunately there is very little in English to find which is why we recommend a search on alter-ee or a-infos as the best sources of information. It is however worth trying to write to people directly in English; many people know the language to a greater or lesser extent or can pass on your enquiries to people who may answer.

News and Views plays an archival/historical rather than an activist function. Groups and activists tend to change more frequently in this part of the world so many groups or individuals mentioned in earlier issues of News and Views may not exist at this time. I have left contact information, etc. posted in the original version of the bulletins but please look at the updated links for current contacts.
